A Song For Saturday: "Ready to Start" by Arcade Fire

Maybe you were like me and had heard a song or two from Arcade Fire before the Grammy's this year.  Maybe also like me after they won the Grammy for Best Album of the Year, you thought to yourself "Wait, what? Who are these guys?  Why did they get this huge award?"  Well, very shortly after this thought process occurred I had the award-winning album, The Suburbs, and began to listen.  Well, months later I haven't really stopped listening.  Not for more than a couple days at least.

(at 1:03 he starts telling you who they -Arcade Fire- are)

This band is Canadian, based in Montreal.  It was founded by a married couple - Win Butler and Régine Chassagne - as well as five other bandmembers.  When they go on tour, they have accompanying musicians that sometimes bring their numbers up by six others.  That means on one stage up to thirteen musicians rocking out!!  They had nine onstage at the Grammy Awards.  From Wikipedia: "The band plays guitardrumsbass guitarpianoviolinviolacello, double bassxylophoneglockenspielkeyboardFrench hornaccordionharpmandolin, and hurdy-gurdy. Most of their instruments are taken on tour, and the multi-instrumentalist band members switch duties throughout shows." Don't know what a hurdy-gurdy is?  Yeah, neither did I.

Now, if you haven't already seen it, you should check out their interactive music video for their song "We Used to Wait."  Go ahead... just go.  It's pretty cool.

If you've been a fan of Arcade Fire for a while, thanks for tolerating my lateness.
